HISTORY


The Escuela de Guerra Naval (Argentinian Naval War College) was created on July 30, 1934,
during the presidency of General Agustín P. Justo and inspired by the Minister of the Navy,
Captain Eleazar Videla. Conceived as a guiding educational Institute for superior personal
of the Navy, it was designed to cover the academic needs of naval officers, serving
in the command and management of ships, naval bases, naval aircrafts
and Marine Corps units. In the spirit
of its founders resided the idea of making the classrooms suitable areas to develop naval thinking,
with an outstanding projection.

CHRONOLOGY

1934

CREATION

Creation Ceremony attended by the Minister of the Navy, Captain Eleazar Videla, the Minister of War and higher authorities of the Argentinian Army and Navy.

1934

WAR GAMES

When the "War Games" started, they occupied a preponderant place both in the academic plan and in the structure of the institute. A Simulation Game, whether of Crisis or War, consists in the definition of a scenario and in the description of the actors involved. 

1940

COURSES

The "Superior Course" was conceived for “Capitanes de Navio” (“Captains”) and the "Minor Course" for “Capitanes de Corbeta” (“Lieutenant Commanders”)

1950

NEW COURSES

Other courses were incorporated for different career branches. The first example was the Logistics Course, for medical Navy officers, pharmacists, lawyers, engineers and accountants, focused on
organizational issues

1970

EQUALIZATION OF COURSES 

The Naval and Marine Corp command and staff
courses where integrated in a common course.
The objective was to optimize and unify procedures.

1996

POSGRADUTE

In 1996 the institute started to dictate the "Master in Organization Management ", the "Master in Strategic Studies", and later the "Master in Logistics". 

1997

JUPITER SIMULATOR

The software “Jupiter Simulator”, was registered as 'Unpublished Work' in the Intellectual Property Registry. From then on, it is the Naval War College students´ tool for War Gaming at the operational level.

2007

TRANSFER TO A NEW FACILITY

The College changed its emplacement to the former “Immigrants Hotel” a Navy´s centenary building
in Buenos Aires Harbor. This building was subjected
to intense refurbishment work, and it was reopened
on December 9, 2008 

2012

TRANSFER TO CEFFAA

Naval War College moved to the compound of the Armed Forces Education Center in the neighborhood of Palermo, Buenos Aires.

2018

TRANSFER OF JUPITER SIMULATOR

"Jupiter simulator” tranfered to the Naval War College of the Peruvian Navy.
